My name is Adam. I cut my teeth as a self-shoot digital video producer for the BBC, where I had the pleasure and privilege of telling the stories of a huge variety of characters, from veterans and scientists to Regency dandies and vegan cats!

I've been privileged to work for some exceptionally important causes, and the worldfoodprogramme's food fortification initiative is up there with the greatest of them.

It's incredible that for much less than 1 cent or penny, a bowl of fortified rice can be placed in the hands of someone who would otherwise be vulnerable to micronutrient malnutrition. Read more about it here: https://www.wfp.org/food-fortification

Award season has officially begun for me! First one of the year was spent this evening with @springernature, celebrating their John Maddox prize.

The award “…recognises researchers who stand up and speak out for science and evidence-based policy, advancing public discussion around difficult topics, despite challenges or hostility, and successfully making a change in public discourse or policy.”

Inspiring stuff and a fascinating panel discussion. Also, the first outing for my @djiglobal ‘mic spider!’ and new @atomos.global monitors🕷️🤓

One day I’ll stop buying new kit and actually make some money! But, I do love the technical challenge of making a complex shoot manageable for a one-man crew, while preserving the quality 😁

I’ve been assembling an audio rig that’s reliable, light, fast to setup and enables me to wirelessly monitor and record multiple mics in quality at any location (while simultaneously operating cameras). I’ve arrived at this glorious combination…

1x Zoom H8 audio recorder attached to 3x DJI Mic 2 Transmitters, each linked via a 3.5mm jack to 2x XLR split (enabling six mic channels to be recorded individually to the H8).

Its a great setup as you can easily control individual mic levels on the H8 and you also have the backup of being able to record a 32bit float safety track directly onto the DJI Mic 2s themselves (a post-production lifeline!).

The only potential issue with this rig is the proximity of the receivers, but tests today presented no interference issues (and there’s always that safety track to fall back on).

In its current form this is a £1500 rig, expandable to up to 10 mics with a Zoom EXH-8 module (which adds another 4x XLR inputs to the H8) and two more DJI Mic 2 kits (an additional £880 😅). Would likely need to space out those extra receivers with a longer bar though…

Big decisions have been made recently as I’ve been making a significant investment in upgrading the audio end of my video productions. In particular the wearable mics.

At the front are my hard working Rode Filmmaker mics, which have got me through the first five years. At the back are the next generation of mics in the form of DJI Mic 2.

Tricky choice between these and the Rode Wireless Pro’s, but my own experience and functional shortfalls over the last five years, and the ever invaluable advice of my mate @bigbenmoore, led me to opt for the @djiglobal offering.

I’m looking forward to:

- No more rechargeable AA batteries
- Instant mic syncing
- Audio backup recordings on the mics themselves
- Smartly designed lav mic clips, saving me from those fiddly adjustments
- Ability to control the mics via the user friendly touch screen menu on the receiver
- Much smaller kit! (Swipe left, it’s insane!)

Flexible Hourly Rates

After a few years in the business we've discovered that working on an hourly rate is easiest for everyone, as it allows a lot of flexibility and much better value for money. You don't have to book a block of full days and you're not limited to a fixed number of revisions. Your project is picked up or paused to fit the schedule of you and your team, giving you all the time you need to review edits. What's more, all the equipment we have to hand is included in our hourly rate. There are no hidden costs.

Quotes for Budget Management

Though we calculate your final invoice based on an hourly rate, we will still provide a quote for individual projects, so you can manage your budget secure in the knowledge that costs won't run out of control.

How much though?

For a tailored quote get in touch! But meanwhile, it's really annoying when you can't find the price tag isn't it? So here’s an approximate guide:

Editing

1 Hour: £50
Full Day (up to 7hrs): £350

Includes:

- Quality stock music and sound FX from Audiio.com.

- Incorporation of your branding.

- Motion graphics, visual effects, subtitles etc.

- Any output format you need (mobile, social media, website, TV).

Filming

1 Hour: £70
Full Day (up to 7hrs): £490

Includes:

- One crew member (Often enough, but additional crew can be added)

- Film resolutions from HD to 4K UHD.

- Full public liability insurance up to £1m.

From experience, one full day of filming usually requires 2-3 days of editing, which means a very rough ballpark figure for a project could be around £1,150-£1,500 + travel expenses.
